Nigeria’s finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has on Monday shared the unforgettable experience her mother had in the den of the kidnappers, saying they (kidnappers) spent much of the time harassing her. She also said that the kidnappers, who held her mother hostage for five days had demanded her resignation, suggesting the abduction had a political motive.
It would be recalled that her mother’s release was announced on Friday.

Enugu Governor Chime is alive

IN a reaction to rumours doing the rounds that the Enugu State governor, Mr Sullivan Chime, died at an undisclosed hospital abroad, the government of Enugu State has stated that the governor is alive and on vacation at an undisclosed country abroad.

The state Commissioner for Information, Mr Chuks Ugwoke, while reacting to the purported death of Governor Chime, said the governor was in perfect health, adding that he spoke with him on phone in the early hours of Sunday.

Villagers recount last moment of crashed helicopter

Naval pilots – Commander Murtala Daba and Lt. Adeyemi Sowole – tried in vain to land the helicopter which crashed on Saturday at Okoroba community in Nembe Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.
Governor of Kaduna State, Mr. Patrick Yakowa; the former National Security Adviser, Gen. Owoye Azazi, and two of their aides died alongside the two pilots.
Eyewitnesses said the pilots appeared to have sighted a space at the swampy mangrove, few metres to the  crash site, and made some efforts to land the ill-fated helicopter.

A man simply identified as Iku Monday by residents of Sabo area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, is still being quizzed by the police for allegedly beheading dead woman (names withheld) after exhuming her corpse from a grave in her husband’s building site. Checks by Sunday Sun revealed that on August 18 this year, Mr. Abiodun, husband of Monday’s victim, contracted Monday to clear a plot of land belonging to him on the outskirts of Sabo for a fee.


On the site was a grave of his (Abiodun’s) second wife, who died recently of complications following delivery of her baby. Sunday Sun also authoritatively gathered that trouble started when a resident simply identified as Mr. Akpan allegedly spotted Iku Monday while exhuming and beheading the corpse of the dead woman. Akpan then raised the alarm, alerting the neighbourhood of the dastardly act by Monday and in no time a crowd gathered to ‘arrest’ Monday.
