Elderly couple escapes injury when small plane crashes into home near Chicago

Scene of a plane crash near Midway Airport in Chicago on Tuesday morning

A small two-engine cargo plane crashed into a home on the Southwest Side blocks after experiencing engine problems short after taking off from Midway Airport early Tuesday, aviation officials said.
The plane was trying to return to Midway around 2:45 a.m. when it plowed into the front of an elderly couple's home in the 6500 block of South Knox Avenue. The plane crashed through the front window and came to rest in the living room, its tail angled upward against the roof of a neighboring home.
The couple, an 84-year-old man and an 82-year-old woman, were sleeping in the back room and were not injured, fire officials said. Crews were working to stabilize the house in order to search for the pilot, who they believe was the only person on board.
