Istanbul explosion by ‘suicide bomber’ leaves several people dead and injured

Travellers have been warned to avoid tourist sites in Istanbul after ten people were killed by a suspected Syrian suicide bomber in the Turkish city.
The blast rocked the Sultanahmet neighbourhood, which is home to the city's biggest concentration of monuments and visited by tens of thousands of tourists every day.
Witnesses said the explosion shook buildings, while pictures showed corpses strewn across a main square near world-famous sites including the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia.

At least six Germans, one Norwegian and a Peruvian were among the wounded, Turkey's Dogan news agency reported.
Police cordoned off the area to shocked passers-by and tourists and the nearby tram service has been halted amid fears of a second blast.
